Our Clinical Director, Professor Dennis Velakoulis, will be presenting a free public lecture entitled “Young Onset Dementia – a shared journey into the unknown” as part of the educational series presented by the RMH Foundation. Professor Velakoulis will discuss the importance and impact of clinical research at The Royal Melbourne Hospital which aims to improve the lives of patients and their families and in the hope of one day finding a cure for this life-changing condition. Professor Velakoulis will be joined by Jodie and her partner who will speak of their lived experience with young onset dementia. Congratulations to our Clinical Director, Professor Dennis Velakoulis, on being awarded the prestigious Ian Simpson Award at the recent RANCZP conference in New Zealand. The Ian Simpson Award was established in 1976 and acknowledges the most outstanding contributions to clinical psychiatry as assessed through service to patients and to the community
The 7th Annual Neuropsychiatry and Behavioural Neurology Conference will be held in Melbourne again this year; all day Friday 23 and the morning of Saturday 24 November 2018.
The program is again covering updates of interest to psychiatrists, neurologists, geriatricians and neuropsychologists in topics ranging from developmental neuropsychiatry, ADHD and sleep to primary progressive aphasia and dementia biomarkers by experts in these fields. There will stimulating case presentations and abstracts presented by trainees. A plenary neurophilosophy lecture will be presented by Professor George Paxinos AO, Senior Neuroscientist and Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, on brain and mind.
A relaxed and convivial social event and dinner will be held on campus on the Friday evening with entertaining after-dinner speakers Professor Paul Mullen and Dr Saul Mullen.
And on Saturday morning, back by popular demand are workshops on interpretation of MRI and PET scan in neuropsychiatry and cognitive neurology.
